Home Standby Generators

When the power goes out, you can count on Generac to work for you. A Generac Home Standby Generator senses a power outage, turns on automatically and delivers back-up power to your home. It will run until utility power returns—whether that’s two hours or two weeks. An Automatic Transfer Switch is installed allowing Standby Generators to operate automatically without homeowner involvement.

Whether you want comprehensive whole-house coverage or just need to protect essential circuits, there’s a Generac home-backup system that fits your lifestyle. The two primary approaches that typically meet the requirements of most homeowners:

  1. A small generator (i.e. 8kw) with a limited circuit panel and selection of a few necessary circuits.
  2. A larger generator (i.e. 20 kw) with a whole-house transfer switch that will run everything.

A Generac sizing tool is used to help homeowners decide which generator best fits your home.

Home Standby Generators operate on either natural gas or LP gas. Our technicians are Counter-Strike Gas Pipe Certified Installers and can install the required gas piping.

Generac Portable Generators

Get the power you need, when and where you need it. Generac’s portable power products let you take your power with you, wherever you want to go. Power your construction site. Back up your home. And everything in between.

Portable Generators are not automatic and require work and attention by a homeowner if used to back up your home during a power outage. Most people store portable generators inside when not in use; however, they must be moved outside to operate. Portable generators require regular gas to operate and must be kept filled. A transfer switch is installed to connect the portable generator to your home. We can install a manual transfer switch and cord or connection as required.

Electrical Service Panel Upgrades/Replacements

Reasons for upgrading your service:

Size Requirements

  • If your home was built before 1960, you may exceed the capacity of your home’s electrical system. 50 years ago, homeowners weren’t planning for air conditioners, microwaves and dishwashers.

  • For today’s electronic needs, older panels are often limited in space and require additional space for more circuits. Older homes often have a 60 or 100 amp service; most homes require a 200 amp service.

Safety

  • Older fuse panels are often unsafe due to incorrect fuse sizing or “cheating” by putting a penny behind the fuse, which doesn’t protect your wiring.

  • FPE and Zinsco brand breakers are notorious for malfunctioning and should be replaced. If your home was built before 1980, you may want to check your panel for these types of breakers.

  • Older homes typically do not have AFCI or GFCI protected circuits. The National Electric Code now requires most residential circuits to be Arc Fault Circuit Interrupting (AFCI) protected preventing fires from electrical arcs. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupting (GFCI) devices protect people from electrical shock and are installed in areas that are in close proximity to moisture such as kitchens, baths, basements, garages and outdoors.

  • Old service panels and meter bases deteriorate over time causing rusting of the panel box and meter base, corroding and arcing breakers where they attach to the bus bar, and failing service cables.

Landscape Lighting

Landscape lighting is one of the best and most popular ways to enhance the beauty of your property. A thoughtful lighting design brings out the features of your home by highlighting stone and brickwork, welcoming guests with illuminated stone walks, paths and lighting at entryways and porches, and enhancing decorative plants and landscape features. Here are the key things you need to consider when selecting landscape lighting and lighting fixtures:

Low Voltage – Low voltage lighting runs on 12 volts produced by a transformer. The installation of these types of lighting fixtures is less disruptive to the landscape as the wiring is run just under the ground.

Line Voltage – Line voltage fixtures require a 120 volt circuit to be run. Post lamps, spot lighting and some other lighting fixtures are better suited to be run on line voltage. This wiring is required to be buried 18” below ground level.

Solar – No electrician is required for solar landscape lights. In many cases they are only decorative and often do not produce enough usable light.

Most landscape lighting is installed with an automatic timer, photocell or motion-detector control. New technology like LED (Light Emitting Diodes) and other low voltage bulbs makes landscaping lighting efficient while enhancing the beauty of your home.

Surge Protection

A surge protector is an appliance designed to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes, surges and lightning damage. We offer whole house surge protection for electric, phone, internet, and cable TV services. The surge protection device is mounted on or near the circuit breaker panel. Even if you have surge protection strips, we recommend redundant protection by installing the whole house surge protector.
